Pocket Gopher Control

Ongoing Pocket Gopher Control on a Large Private Ocala Property

Project Overview

The landowner originally reached out in 2023 due to extensive gopher mound activity interfering with their property’s function. Pocket gophers, known for their deep tunnel systems and constant digging, were creating widespread surface disruption and increasing erosion risk in high-use areas.

Challenges

  • Large-scale acreage requiring consistent and thorough inspection
  • Fluctuating gopher activity depending on season and soil conditions
  • Need to minimize ongoing soil damage across actively used land

Our Approach

Wildlife Works conducts monthly property inspections to identify new gopher mounds and active tunnels. When activity is found, traps are placed based on tunnel patterns and soil disruption. This ongoing system allows us to quickly remove active animals and reduce future impact.

Results

  • Over 100 pocket gophers removed since project initiation
  • Significant reduction in active mound formation
  • Long-term reduction in surface damage and root system disruption
  • Ongoing partnership with the client to keep the property under control
