A resident in Silver Springs Shores contacted Wildlife Works after discovering a squirrel trapped inside their lanai. The squirrel had found her way into the enclosed area but was unable to find her way back outside.
Rather than risk the squirrel becoming injured—or attempting to capture a frightened wild animal themselves—the homeowner called Wildlife Works for assistance.
Our technician safely captured the squirrel and released her outside the home, quickly resolving the situation for both the homeowner and their unexpected visitor.
Squirrels are excellent climbers and highly agile outdoors, but when one becomes trapped inside a lanai, screened enclosure, garage, or other confined area, it may have difficulty finding an exit.
A frightened squirrel may repeatedly attempt to escape through windows or screens and can potentially injure itself or damage the surrounding area in the process.
Trying to catch or handle a wild squirrel can also put a homeowner at risk of being bitten or scratched, particularly when the animal is frightened and attempting to escape.
In this case, the goal wasn’t pest control—it was simply to safely remove the trapped squirrel and return her outdoors.
Wildlife Works responded to the Silver Springs Shores home and assessed the situation before attempting to capture the squirrel.
Our technician carefully and safely captured the animal while minimizing unnecessary stress. Because the squirrel had simply become trapped inside the lanai and did not require additional wildlife-control measures, she was released outside the home.
The squirrel was able to return to her natural environment, and the homeowner once again had full use of the lanai.
The squirrel was successfully captured and safely released outside the residence.
No extensive trapping program or exclusion work was necessary. Wildlife Works was able to provide a simple, humane solution to an unexpected wildlife encounter and resolve the situation safely for both the homeowner and the squirrel.
