Wildlife Works was called to a horse farm in Northeast Ocala, Florida, where pocket gophers had been creating multiple mounds across the property.
Pocket gophers spend most of their lives underground, so property owners may rarely see the animals themselves. Instead, their presence is usually identified by the distinctive soil mounds created as they dig and maintain their extensive underground tunnel systems.
Wildlife Works technician Tanner evaluated the activity, identified several active areas, and established a trapping program targeting the gophers responsible for the mounds.
Pocket gophers can be particularly troublesome on horse farms and other large properties because their tunneling activity may extend well beyond the visible mounds at the surface.
Their underground activity can disturb soil, damage grass and vegetation, and leave numerous mounds throughout pastures and landscaped areas. On equine properties, disturbed and uneven ground is an additional concern in areas regularly used by horses, people, and farm equipment.
Because pocket gophers live primarily underground, successful removal requires identifying active tunnel systems and strategically placing traps where the animals are currently traveling.
Tanner inspected the property and evaluated multiple pocket gopher mounds to determine where the animals were actively tunneling.
Professional traps were strategically placed at several active locations rather than simply addressing the visible soil mounds. The trapping sites were then monitored as part of the removal process.
The approach quickly produced results, with three pocket gophers captured within just three days.
Wildlife Works successfully trapped and removed three pocket gophers in three days from the Northeast Ocala horse farm.
By targeting the active underground tunnel systems, our technician addressed the animals responsible for the ongoing mound activity rather than simply leveling the visible evidence above ground.
For horse farms and other large properties, professional pocket gopher control can help protect pastures, lawns, landscaping, and other maintained areas from continued burrowing activity.
