Bat Exclusion at Stone Creek Ocala

Bat Exclusion at Stone Creek Ocala | Bat Removal Project

Project Overview

Stone Creek is a prominent residential community in Ocala, Florida. As bat activity intensified near several community buildings, residents raised concerns regarding the associated health risks, particularly exposure to guano and the risk of bats entering indoor spaces.

Wildlife Works was contracted to conduct a thorough inspection of three buildings within the community, identifying potential bat entry points and preparing for rapid exclusion. With Florida’s bat maternity season fast approaching—during which all exclusion work is legally suspended—we were up against a tight timeline to address the issue while remaining in full compliance with state regulations.

Challenges

  • Time Constraints: The exclusion needed to be completed before the April 15th bat maternity cutoff.
  • Resident Concerns: Ensuring safety for a densely populated residential community.
  • Multiple Entry Points: Each building had several areas where bats had roosted or were entering.

Our Approach

  1. Detailed Inspection: Located active bat access points across three buildings.
  2. Exclusion Planning: Strategically planned for phased exclusion and sealing to avoid disrupting bat behavior.
  3. Installation of One-Way Valves: Allowed bats to exit safely without re-entry.
  4. Sealing and Repair: Once bat activity ceased, all valves were removed and entry points professionally sealed.
  5. Cleanup: Removed guano and cleaned oil-based markings left around former entryways.

Results

  • Legal Compliance: All work completed before the bat maternity season restrictions took effect.
  • Effective Mitigation: All three buildings were cleared of bat activity.
  • Community Satisfaction: Residents reported no further bat sightings or concerns following project completion.
  • Preventative Action: Buildings are now secured to prevent future wildlife intrusions.
